3 Container Approach to Collectd containers

Purpose:

While there is a lot of activity on Collectd Master, the release cadence of Collectd versions has been a known issue.

To alleviate the delay concerns in showcasing cutting edge work being done on Collectd plugins, the Barometer community has taken the 3 Container approach.

Approach:

There will be three barometer-Collectd containers going ahead accessible for users:

1. “Stable” – currently available container with latest stable release branch (5.8).

2. “Master” – new container, based on latest collectd master branch.

3. “Experimental” – new container, with selected patches, that are not accepted/merged yet on Collectd Master

Details:

Master Container:

• A new container based on Collectd Master

• Will provide the plugins that are available on Master but not yet part of latest stable release of Collectd

• Will incorporate all the bug fixes and features additions that are available on Master

• Updates from master taken in on bi-weekly cadence

Experimental Container:

• A brand new container featuring Cherrypicked Collectd pull requests that have not been upstreamed yet on Collectd

• Based on Collectd Master

• Does not provide Functest support

• Treated as unstable with any deployment issues may only be addressed over community discussions
